Following on from last years Chinese – Irish wedding, in April I shot my first Italian – Irish wedding. Well actually this was really just an Italian wedding in Ireland. Riccardo, our groom, has an Italian father, and Irish mother, while Caterina hails from Italy. Their day was warm and funny, slightly chaotic at times, with a few tears of laughter and emotion, and lots of chatter! I really enjoyed being part of it all, and being made so welcome. Some of the half Italian / broken English conversation got the better of me, but anything lost in translation ended with a laugh and a smile.
It was my first time in Belleek Castle, and it was well worth the 5 hour drive from home. I spent two nights in Ballina, across the road from Caterina and Riccardo’s restaurant, Cafollas on Bridge St, in the Manor Hotel. Seems like everyone that made the trip from Italy was there too! Belleek Castle is worth a visit if you’re in the area. Beautiful grounds, gorgeous castle, delicious food, and so friendly. You can go on a tour of the castle and see the Medieval Banquet Hall, the Armada Bar, and the Tween Deck, not to mention the collection of antiques and fossils in the castle.
I’m looking forward to my next trip up there!
