Last summer I had the pleasure of photographing my first Chinese – Irish wedding. Qingyue and James were a great couple – he from Cork and she from China. Qingyue came to Ireland to study in UCC, and met James, who persuaded her to stay. Yay!
A small group of Qingyue’s family and friends made the long journey west, and we all enjoyed a wonderful cultural exchange, which included much hand gesturing and head nodding. The speeches were in both Chinese and English, and each was translated. One interesting drinking tradition was ganbei – “drying the cup”. People would make a toast to member of the wedding party, and would then clink glasses and empty them. Much fun ensued with this one!
The dinner in Flemings Restaurant was excellent as always (thanks for feeding me guys!). For a small intimate wedding you can’t get much better than Flemings.
Some fabulous vendors for the day –
